My son began lucid dreaming because he was tired of having scary nightmares three or more times a week. His girlfriend told him that there was a way to take control of one’s sleep and not to be the victim any longer. He was sick of waking up in a cold sweat. Often, he would not go back to sleep because he just was too afraid that the same thing would happen again. Instead of getting a good night’s sleep, he would go to work exhausted. In fact, some of the dreams were about his boss firing at him or humiliating him in the office. My son’s girlfriend told him that he should meditate for ten minutes before going to bed and to tell himself that he will be able to stay lucid when he starts to dream. She also suggested that if threatening people appear in his dream that he try to look at the situation with humor and not take it too seriously.
